Flight 93 National Memorial

The design for the Flight 93 Memorial was announced in Washington, D.C. at a press conference on September 7, 2005.

The winning design, "Crescent of Embrace", was selected by a 15-member jury made up of family members, community leaders and design professionals. Designed by Paul Murdoch Architects of Los Angeles, CA, along wih Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects of Charlottesville, VA, "Crescent of Emrace" consists of pedestrian trails and a roadway leading to a visitor center and the actual crash site surrounded by a crescent of maple trees. The entry way to the park will feature the Tower of Voices, a chapel with 40 chimes representing each of the 40 heroes which were aboard UA Flight #93 .

A projected date for the opening of the Memorial has not yet been set.
